Step 1:
Grab two pieces of cardboard. It can be anything. As you an see, I used a cereal box. Decide how large you want your pom-pom to be and cut out two cardboard circles appropriate to the size you desire, then cut out a hole in the middle as well.
Step 2:
Cut a string of yarn (doesn't matter the length, you can always knot on some more yarn later if you don't have enough. I actually think it's easier to handle if the piece of yarn isn't to long.) Start wrapping the yarn around the cardboard disc, by going through the center and then to the outside. Keep wraping until their is no more carboard showing and continue to wrap, and wrap, and wrap until you can't fit any more yarn through the center. This is an indication that the pom-pom is thick enough.
I varied the string color I used, tying on a different color each time the last color ran out!

Step 3:
When there is no more room in the center to feed yarn through, grab your scissors and cut the yarn open all the way around so that you can reach in an grab each cardboard disc. Pull the discs apart, slowly, and when there is enough space between each disc, grab a small piece of yarn and tie it around the bundle of pom-pom yarn between the two pieces of carboard. This will hold the pom-pom pieces together
Step 4:
Pull the cardboard completely off and fluff the yarn. Look how cute! A Pom-Pom!
Add these to hats, puppets, or just tie it around your head and where it as a hair piece- I love making mine super-obnoxiously-big and doing this!
